Parent Teacher Conferences

This past week we worked on fractions, made judgments during reading, and discussed pronouns. Students were very excited to watch the School House Rock video clip about what a pronoun is and why we have pronouns.

In the upcoming week, we will be discussing multiplication and division, writing a paragraph with details supporting an opinion, discussing biographies, and learning about solids, liquids, and gases.

Thank you to everyone who came to Parent Teacher Conferences!

February

3rd grade students have been hard at work. In math, they have been working on fractions. We have worked on writing fractions in regards to a part of a set. We have also continued working on multiplication and division.

In reading, we have been discussing a story about seals and practicing comparing and contrasting. Students also wrote an acrostic poem about the story or a word of their choosing. During writing, we focused on writing a paragraph that has an opening sentence and three supporting details. We will continue to work on this throughout writing and social studies.

Students are very excited for the social studies research project. They are researching people related to the westward movement (e.g. Lewis and Clark, Sacagawea, etc.). We will continue to locate information on these people as we go into next week.

Reminders:
Iowa Test of Basic Skills is next week. Please help your child do well by ensuring that they receive plenty of sleep and eat a hearty breakfast before coming to school each day.

Thank you for all that you do!
